Friday Focus- Author Karen Docter

For my first blog of 2015 I am going to start a new thing. On Fridays, I will focus on an author, genre, or something cool or interesting.

Over the holidays I was introduced to the works of Karen Docter. She is also known as K.L. Docter. Through Choosy Book Worm I had the opportunity to read and review Satin Pleasures. In the process of this read and review I exchanged emails with Karen. She is a very nice woman and generous. In return for reviews for her other books, she sent me free copies of her books. I was the lucky one in this instance as Karen is a very talented writer.

Looking at her website, I found out she wanted to be a kindergarten teacher. However, when all the English classes were full, she took Journalism and found her passion. We are all lucky she never gave up writing. Her sense of humor is a good one. She made me laugh out loud a few times. I hope she continues to find the passion and puts it into words in a book or two or one hunded. I know I will be reading. I signed up for her newsletter. Check out her website for more information.

Catch that Santa is a short novella about Sara, who arrives at her grandmother’s retirement home to find out her grandmother ran off to Vegas with Santa. Francisco arrives to find out his grandfather who was playing santa ran off to Vegas with Sara’s grandmother. The story follows Sara and Francisco on their chase after their grandparents towards Vegas. Between fevers, rock slides, and a kiss that rocks them both. What will happen to them? Francisco was going to propose to his “girlfriend” and Sara had become a widower after her husband and mistress were killed in a car accident. Leaving Sara and Lanie, her 7-month old daughter, alone. This story is funny and sweet. I would give it ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ It is short, sweet, and fun!
Satin Pleasures is a contemporary romance novel about Dan & Tess. They meet in a traffic jam on the Golden Gate Bridge. Tess had been sitting on the hood of her car when a waylay frisbee knocks her off her car into the side mirror of her car. Dan comes to her rescue and the sparks are flying immediately. The two of them connect and the chemistry is apparent. However, they didn’t know that they would soon be professionally connected. Turns out that Dan is a tenant in the mall that Tess manages. They both know they should not be involved, but the temptation is so hard. Both spend a lot of time fantasizing about the other. However, both have many roadblocks that prevent them from connecting. Can they ever figure it out a way to make it work? Or are there too many obstacles?  Again I give this book ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ The characters are engaging, their chemistry sizzles, and they are so funny. Truly an enjoyable book. A fun read for an afternoon. I loved it

This is my favorite of the three books I read. Killing Secrets has it all, including humor, passion, suspense, twists and turns that leave you wanting more. There are so many things going on in this book, but they work out to make a story you can’t put down.

Rachel and her daughter, Amanda, has been running from her ex-husband since he beat her and her friend Simon put her back together and sent her off Texas to hide. However, she just found out that her ex-husband was getting out of jail. She knew he would be coming after her and Amanda. She had to run again. Her friend Kate made arrangements for her to hide at the Thorne’s residence.

Next door to where Rachel is staying is the Thorne’s son, Patrick, who is just recovering emotionally from his wife’s suicide while pregnant with his child two years earlier. On top of that, someone is sabotaging his work sites. He doesn’t have time for a beautiful woman, who haunts his dreams, and her troubles. However, when her ex-husband shows up and starts threatening Rachel, Patrick jumps to her rescue. Has he just signed his death warrant?

The rest of the book is how Rachel and Patrick get out from under the dark cloud of troubles. There is some major passion as well as sexual frustration between Patrick and Rachel. There are twists and surprises that you don’t see coming. Overall, the book keeps you engaged and wanting to know what happens next. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys some romance and suspense all mixed in one!! One of my top books! Can’t wait for book 2!! I give it ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ for excellence!!
